For ‘Disrespect’ of Governor Bala Mohammed, Bauchi Emirate Council Strips APC’s Senator Buba of Traditional Title

By Yemi Monday

For alleged act of disrespect to Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir who is the Kauran Bauchi, Senator Shehu Buba Umar has been found guilty and stripped of his traditional title of Majidadin Bauchi  by the Bauchi Emirate Council.

Senator Buba lost his chieftaincy title barely one week after he publicly challenged Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir over his criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his policies.

Senator Shehu Buba Umar (Bauchi South) is of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the opposition party in the State.

In terse letter to that effect by the Bauchi Emirate Council released late Wednesday evening, the Senator was advised to henceforth stop using the title as it has been withdrawn from him.

The letter dated August 14, 2024 and written in Hausa and addressed to Senator Shehu Umar signed by one Nasiru Musa on behalf of the Emirate Council Secretary, formally conveyed the withdrawal of the traditional title from the Senator.

The letter stated that the withdrawal followed a meeting of the Council held on Wednesday August 14 chaired by the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu which deliberated on the Senator’s alleged misdemeanours and consequently resolved to derobe him as a traditional title holder of the Emirate.

The Council specifically accused Senator Shehu Umar of “disrespecting and humiliating the Bauchi State Governor,” actions it said were at “variance with the teachings and culture of Bauchi Emirate.”

It could be recalled that the Senator had in a chat with Journalists after flagging off the APC campaign for the local government elections, the previous week, accused Governor Bala Mohammed of short-changing the people of Bauchi State as regards some palliative items sent to the state by the APC-led federal government.

The Senator enumerated some palliatives such as rice, corn and fertilizer sent to the state by the federal government for the onward distribution to the people of the State to cushion the effects of economic hardship.

He alleged that the items were sold out by the state government instead of being distributed freely to the people, challenging the Governor to give account of the items.

This will be the fourth time such action will be taken by the Emirate Council, it started with the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Barr Yakubu Dogara who was stripped of his traditional title of Jakadan Bauchi as well as Elder Stateman, Muhammad Bello Kirfi who was removed as Wazirin Bauchi and former member of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi who was removed as Wakilin Birnin Bauchi.

All the actions were taken by the Emirate Council after the former titleholders must have had public confrontation with the Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir.
