Vice Admiral Ogalla Confirms Special Court Martial’s Dismissal, Reduction in Rank For 10 Ratings

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla has confirmed the sentences of dismissal and reduction in ranks against 10 ratings who were tried of offences ranging from Disobedience to Standing Order, AWOL, Desertion and Conduct to the Prejudice of Service Discipline.

The rating who were involved include ABQA2 Garba S X10931; ABUW3 Shuaibu MG X13437; ABWTR Salifu YD S6473; SMFC3 Ebeh AC X 13203; SMUC3 Soetan SA X14829; SMQA3 Tanimu S X17092; SMFC3 Jatau PK X17678; OSQA3 Gonda JN X13245; OSNT Alhassan D X18470 and OS Peter FD X16193.

And in line with Naval headquarters (NHQ) directive, the confirmations of the Special Court Martial and Summary Trial punishments of the ratings were conducted at NNS BEECROFT parade ground and Commander’s conference room respectively on Thursday September 5, 2024.

The confirmation letters were read by the Executive Officer (XO) NNS BEECROFT, Captain MI Raji with officers and Men of base in attendance.

Details showed that “ABUW3 Shuaibu MG X13437 was tried for AWOL and awarded reduction in rate from ABUW3 to SMUW3 WEF 23 Aug 23 and ABWTR Salifu YD S6473 was tried on 3 count charges of Disobedience to Standing Order, AWOL and Conduct to the Prejudice of Service Discipline and consequently awarded dismissal on counts 2 and 3.

“Similarly, SMFC3 Ebeh AC X 13203, OSQA3 Gonda JN X13245 and OSNT Alhassan D X18470 were summarily tried on one count charge of AWOL and awarded dismissal from the NN WEF 2 Aug 22, 8 Jun 23 and 12 Feb 24 respectively.

“Furthermore, SMQA3 Tanimu S X17092 and OS Peter FD X16193 were summarily tried on one count charge of Desertion and awarded dismissal from the NN WEF 3 Apr 19 and 1 Aug 23 respectively. It’s worthy of note to mention that OS Peter FD X16193 was a complement of FOB Badagry as of the time he committed the offence. He was subsequently tried by the CO FOB Badagry and awarded dismissal from the NN WEF 3 Apr 19. However, the ex-rating absconded from FOB Badagry until his arrest on 30 Aug 24.

“Also, ABQA2 Garba S X10931, SMUC3 Soetan SA X14829 and SMFC3 Jatau PK X17678 were tried by Special Courts Martial and awarded 3 years imprisonment each WEF 12 Apr and 17 Apr 24 respectively. Pertinently, the CNS graciously commuted the sentence of imprisonment to reduction in rates.

“Thus, ABQA2 Garba S X10931 was awarded reduction in rate to SMQA2 WEF 12 Apr 24, SMUC3 Soetan SA X14829 was awarded reduction in rate to OSUC3 WEF 17 Apr 24 and SMFC3 Jatau PK X17678 was awarded reduction in rate to OSFC3 WEF 12 Apr 24.

“Meanwhile, the award of dismissal against ABWTR Salifu YD S6473, SMFC3 Ebeh AC X 13203, SMQA3 Tanimu S X17092, OSQA3 Gonda JN X13245, OSNT Alhassan D X18470 and OS Peter FD X16193 was upheld by the CNS.

“The ex-ratings were subsequently dekitted and ushered out of NNS BEECROFT at about 1800 on Thu 5 Sep 24.”
