Nigeria: Military Kill 165 Terrorists, Arrest 185 Others, Deployed 23 Boats in Borno Flood Rescue Mission, Says DHQ

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) in the last one week killed 165 terrorists as well as actively participated in rescue operations during the Maiduguri flood disaster.

Giving accounts of activities of the Nigerian Military in the last one week on Friday, the Director of Defence Media Operations (DDMO), Major General Edward Buba also disclosed that 185 terrorists were arrested across the country.

According to General Buba, 106 hostages were equally freed from their abductors by the soldiers while crude oil worth over N1.3b was saved for the country by the military.

Buba said that in the North East, troops of OPERATION HADIN KAI was “working assiduously to ensure safe evacuation of inmates affected by flood  in the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Maidugri. 

“Troops are also ensuring to bring stability in every area of the country where it is needed. To buttress this, troops deployed over 23 boats in evacuating residents of Maiduguri Municipal Council to move distressed resident affected by flood to safer environment. Operation is ongoing”, he stated.

On other successes recorded during the week, the Military spokesman said, “During the week under review, troops neutralized 165 terrorists, arrested 185

and 106 hostages were rescued. 

“In the SS (South South), troops denied the oil theft of the estimated sum of One Billion Three Hundred and Six Million One Hundred and Forty Thousand Naira (N1,306,140.00) only.

“Furthermore, troops recovered 145 weapons, 8,926 ammunitions. The breakdown as follows: 69 AK47 rifles, 31 locally fabricated guns, 38 dane guns, 2 PKT guns, 3,112 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 3,094 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 2,720 rounds of 7.62mm x 38mm ammo, 5 assorted arms and 269 assorted ammunitions. 

“Others are 1,239,400 litres of stolen crude oil, 308,195 litres of illegally refined AGO and 1,120 litres of DPK amongst other item”, Buba said.

In the weeks ahead, the DDMO assured Nigerians that ” troops will continue to operate with tremendous force against terrorist and violent extremists across the country. 

“Accordingly, We will work tirelessly to stop insecurity and ensure the safety of citizens”, he concluded.
