AANI Commiserates With Jigawa State Over Fuel Tanker Explosion In Majiya

The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) has commiserated with the government and people of Jigawa State over the deaths and destruction as a result of the fuel tanker explosion in Majiwa community of the State.

The petrol tanker explosion in which death toll has risen to 180 as of Sunday, October 20, occurred on Tuesday, October 15 when a truck carrying petrol, travelling from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State, exploded in Majia, located in the Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, following a fall. The dead and injuries were mainly individuals who were scooping fuel.

But in a statement, AANI National Publicity Secretary of AANI, Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman (rtd), said the group is “deeply saddened” by the loss.

According to the statement: “The National President of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), Ambassador EO Okafor, on behalf of the National Executive Committee and the entire AANI family, extends our deepest condolences to the government and people of Jigawa State, particularly the residents of Majiya town, over the tragic fuel tanker explosion that occurred on Tuesday, 17th October 2024, in Taura Local Government Area.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of 167 lives in this horrific disaster, and our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those affected. We also wish a swift and full recovery to the 67 individuals currently receiving medical treatment.

“At this time of immense grief, AANI stands in solidarity with the people of Jigawa State. We offer our thoughts and prayers, hoping for healing and strength for all the victims and their families. We also commend the efforts of the Jigawa State Government and all those providing assistance and medical care to the affected persons.

“AANI shares in your sorrow and prays that God grants the souls of the departed eternal rest and gives the bereaved families the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May such tragic incidents never befall our nation again.”
