The innovative Grooming People for Better Livelihood Centre, a leading Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to empowering Nigeria’s economically active poor, has completed the renovation of St. Peter’s Secondary School, Awomnuzie, in Ikwuano LGA, Abia State. This renovation marks a transformative moment for the school, equipping it with cutting-edge educational facilities and setting a new standard for quality education in the region.

Founded in 2006, Grooming Centre has become a catalyst for positive change, with a mission that transcends financial inclusion to foster social impact through education. This project was made possible by Grooming Centre in partnership with the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia.

Through this collaboration, new classrooms, fully equipped laboratories for physics, chemistry, and biology, along with computer labs and modern administrative offices, now adorn the school. In addition, state-of-the-art learning tools, including projectors and interactive whiteboards, create a digitally-enabled environment, empowering students with quality education to thrive in today’s knowledge-driven world.

During the school’s handover ceremony, Dr. Godwin Nwabunka, the visionary Founder and CEO of Grooming People for Better Livelihood Centre, expressed his passion for educational initiatives, saying, “Empowering communities goes beyond providing financial services; it’s about shaping a future where poverty is reduced through education and opportunity. We believe that every child, regardless of background, deserves access to quality education, which is why initiatives like this are at the heart of what we do.”

Most Rev. Michael Ukpong, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia, commended Grooming Centre’s dedication, stating, “The management of Grooming Centre, led by Dr. Godwin Nwabunka, has provided students with an enabling environment that nurtures future leaders. Their commitment to quality education is making huge impact on the lives of these students, and we are grateful”

This school renovation project is one of many educational initiatives under Grooming Centre’s umbrella. Recently, Grooming awarded scholarships to 931 secondary school students at the 8th edition of the Lady Kate Okafor Scholarship Scheme in Lagos on October 18, 2024. Through this scholarship, Grooming Centre offers comprehensive support to deserving Junior Secondary School students, covering their Senior Secondary School fees and providing them with the foundation for a promising future.

These initiatives reflect Grooming Centre’s steadfast vision to cultivate a well-rounded, educated populace equipped for the challenges of modern society, and requisite more information can be obtained media@groomingcentre.org.
