Family Mourns As General John Nwagbo Ulasi, Corp Commander of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps and School, Dies

The former Corp Commander of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps and School (NAMCS), Brigadier General John Nwagbo Ulasi is dead.

He died at the age of 83 after a brief illness.

General Ulasi was also Commander of 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Yaba Lagos and Commander of 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna.

In a statement, the first son of the late octogenarian, Kingsley Ulasi, described the late Brigadier-General as a distinguished and decorated retired military officer.

While appreciating “the outpouring of sympathy,” the family “respectfully” asked members of the public to “allow us the privacy to grieve and celebrate our father’s life.”

The family however said that “details of the funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.”

The full statement by the family reads: “It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Brig. Gen. (Dr.) John Nwagbo Ulasi, a distinguished and decorated retired military officer, who departed this life after a brief illness on the 21st of January, 2025, at the age of 83.

“Brig. Gen. (Dr.) John N. Ulasi was born into the family of the late Chief Joshua Chigbo Ulasi (Oji Ukwu Eje Aba) and the late Mrs. Mercy Ulasi of the Ezenwa Royal Family, Ndimgbu Otolo Nnewi, Anambra State, Nigeria, on the 14th of March, 1941. He had a distinguished military career spanning over 23 years, during which he served the nation with honor and distinction.

“He rose to the peak of his military and medical careers, having served as the Commandant of 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Yaba Lagos; Commandant of 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna; and Corps Commandant of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps and School. His bravery, loyalty, and commitment to duty earned him numerous accolades and awards.

“The family is deeply saddened by his loss, but we take comfort in the knowledge that his legacy of service, discipline, and integrity will continue to inspire us and future generations.

“We appreciate the outpouring of sympathy, but we respectfully ask that the public allow us the privacy to grieve and celebrate our father’s life. Details of the funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.”
