The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), family, friends and associates of Major General Chris Jemitola (rtd), a former Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, has been thrown into mourning following his death. General Jemitola died after slumping at the IBB Golf Club, Abuja.
The fatal incident happened on Thursday morning when he came for his morning exercises and round of golf but was rushed to a hospital where pronounced dead on arrival.
Though there has been no official statement on the death by both the Nigerian Army and the family, many mourners have been thronging his private residence in Asokoro, Abuja to mourn and pray for his soul.
General Jemitola, who served as Obasanjo’s ADC during his second term, from 2003 to 2007, was Director of Defence Information (DDI) before heading to the Nigerian Embassy Brasilia where he served as Nigeria’s Defence Adviser.
General Jemitola, who hailed from Ososo in Akoko Edo Local government area of Edo State, also served as Corp Commander, Nigerian Army Signals (NAS) before his appointment as Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP), Defence Headquarters (DHQ), from where he retired from the Nigerian Army.
Upon his retirement in 2014, he had a stint in the private sector, serving as Senior Advisor for Military Communications at Pinnacle Communications Limited as of 2019.
