- Nigerians react in anger, consternation
There is widespread anger by Nigerians as a female student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Awka, Anambra State engaged in assault and other physical confrontation with a lecturer who interrupted her while she was recording a dance video.
This is just as UNIZIK’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed the development, stating that the university was conducting an internal investigation into the matter.
The physically assaulted lecturer was identified as Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye of UNIZIK Theatre Arts Department while the unruly and violent student involved is a 300-level History and International Studies student and the daughter of a lecturer in the university’s Engineering Department.
In the viral video of the incident which reportedly occurred within the hallway of the Faculty of Arts building, the young woman was filming a dance clip, seemingly for TikTok.
The lecturer, who needed to pass, tapped her on the back to get her attention and signal her to stop recording.
Subsequent reports suggest that the lecturer requested the student to delete the recording, as his face had been captured in the video.
However, the situation quickly escalated, leading to a violent exchange in which the student, whose mother is a lecturer in the Engineering department at the institution, allegedly bit the lecturer multiple times.
While the lecturer attempted to restrain her by holding her hands, witnesses claim she became aggressive, tearing his clothes, slapping him, and scratching his face.

Footage of the incident shows the student attacking the lecturer while onlookers watched in disbelief.
Despite efforts to separate them, she continued her assault, causing commotion within the university.
When contacted, UNIZIK’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed the development, stating that the university was conducting an internal investigation into the matter.
“Yes, there was an incident like that. Investigations are ongoing, and the school will make its position known once we conclude our findings,” Chukwurah said.
He explained that Michael claimed he overheard the student insulting him after he passed by and returned to confirm if she was one of his students.
“He reportedly reached for her phone because he suspected she was making a TikTok video and did not want to appear in it. He asked that the video be deleted, but in response, she allegedly bit him on both arms,” he added.
Images circulating online show visible bite marks on the lecturer’s arms.

Nigerians have reacted in anger, demanding justice for the assaulted lecturer.
Some of their posts include:
Verydarkman says: “You see the way Nigerians are shouting when a teacher maltreåted a student? We need to do that now, Nigeria Police must pick up that UNIZIK female for assåulting the lecturer.”
@Anthonytyga: “Regarding the Unizik lecturer and the student, the reason she was able to act that way toward him is because he has always been a good man. Useless girls take advantage of good men’s kindness, If na wicked lecturer wey everybody sabi, she will never try that shit, they know.
@Iam_realGben: “Duress of what alcohol or weed? Rustication straight and her mother should be sack asapu.”
@Etuff_: “Duress you bite person way no touch you Make them rusticate her asap.”
@theekachi: “I don’t doubt her, she should just provide proof that counters what we saw initially.”

Meanwhile, former students of Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye, assaulted lecturer wrote online:
Ugochukwu Duoh- “It is truly disheartening to see the level of disrespect directed at Dr. Chukwudi, a man who has been more than just a teacher—he has been a father, a mentor, and a guiding light to many of us in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
“To witness such an unfortunate incident is painful, especially knowing how much he has dedicated to shaping and uplifting students. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and should never be condoned.
“Sir, I sincerely apologize on behalf of those of us who still hold respect and gratitude for all you have done. You deserve nothing but honour for the sacrifices you have made in molding generations of students. Your legacy stands strong, and we will always stand by you.”
Franklin Okechukwu Onwubiko – “Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, is one of the calmest, reserved, brilliant yet jovial lecturers in UNIZIK (Theatre Arts department).
“This attitude of the girl is so unwarranted and very repulsive.
“She may likely start looking for another institution and when she eventually finds out the lecturer’s wife is a Senior magistrate of repute, she would have to invite her kindred to save herself from prison.
“Fortunately, Dr. Okoye being a Man of God might just forgive and let go…but eh…”
Chinedu Collins Egemuka – “Wow Doctor Okoye? Jesus one of the best lecturers and responsible lecturers I know. She will see the result of her actions soon.”
