I Am Not Running For Presidency Of Nigeria, Says AfDB President Adesina

President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Akinwumi Adesina, has dispelled the claim that he is prepared to run for the Presidency of Nigeria in 2027.

Adesina in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday said he was quoted out of context by some media organisations after granting an interview to Arise Television.

In the interview on Monday, Adesina, a former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in Nigeria said he was available for national service after his tenure at the bank.

He also said he was willing to serve in any capacity, globally – in Africa, or in his home country, when asked about his political future after his tenure at the AfDB.

Following this, some media outlets reported that Adesina had hinted of plans to run for the 2027 Presidential election.

But refuting the narrative on his X handle, Adesina said: “A segment of my recent interview on @ARISEtv has been both misinterpreted and misrepresented in several Nigerian media outlets.

“What I said was, ‘I will be available to serve in any capacity globally, in Africa, anywhere, including my own country.’

“A listen to the substantive and robust interview, which is available online will show this to be the case. For clarity and for the record, I did not say that I am running for the office of President of Nigeria.”
