There is unease in the membership of the Obedient Movement in Bauchi State over the recent visit of the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 General elections, Peter Obi to Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
However, the Obidient Movement in the State have been urged to remain calm just as they feel “embarrassment” that Obi met with Governor Bala Mohammed without prior consultations with them.
Elder Abel Musa, Chairman of ObiDatti Coalition, Bauchi State, told journalists on Saturday that “this oversight undermines the collective efforts made by the Movement before, during, and after the 2023 elections, as well as our ongoing initiatives aimed at improving Nigeria.
“Such actions risk discouraging a Movement that has emerged in response to critical issues, including maladministration, insecurity, infrastructure deficits, and the rising cost of living.
“The claim that His Excellency Obi’s visit was purely private is misleading. He is not an ordinary citizen, even when he is in a private capacity.
“The visit was not private. Is it when it was broadcast live on social media and covered by mainstream media, including a question-and-answer session? Sadly, this situation arose shortly after a very successful North East Obidient Movement Summit, where dedicated members from Bauchi State actively participated in both planning and execution.
“Feeling sidelined during this visit is unfortunate and provocative for our members. I understand and appreciate the frustration and anger expressed by the Obidient Movement members regarding this matter.
“I commend the maturity of all coordinators and stakeholders for their efforts to calm any frayed nerves and to reinforce our belief that a New Nigeria is possible.”
He however stated: “I appeal to all Obidients to remain focused and consistent in upholding our values and enduring sacrifices. “I respectfully urge His Excellency Peter Obi and his team to reconsider their approach and involve the Obidient Movement in future activities across various States.”
The Coalition Chairperson added that “this collaboration is vital to rekindling the enthusiasm that seems to be waning due to recent actions and in-actions.”
Peter Obi was in Bauchi on Thursday and met had “closed doors discussions” with Bauchi State Governor and Chairperson of PDP Governors Forum, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed after which they told journalists that they are seeking mutual grounds on how to navigate the 2027 general elections.
