Nigeria’s General Akesode Assumes Duty As Head Of Mission, AU Monitoring, Verification, & Compliance Mission In Tigray

Major General Samad A. Akesode has assumed duty as Head of Mission, African Union (AU) Monitoring, Verification, & Compliance Mission (AU-MVCM) in Tigray.

Until the appointment as AU-MVCM Head of Mission, General Akesode was Director of Communications, Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Abuja.

An officer of the Nigerian Army Signals Corps, he was commissioned as a member of the 40th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna on September 25, 1993. 

As part of his onboarding, General Akesode met with the leadership of the AU Commission’s Political Affairs Peace and Security (PAPS) representatives.

The PAPS is the Department of the African Union Commission charged with promoting good governance, peace, security and stability in Africa and advances African positions globally.

Akesode also met with Major General Teshome Gemechu, the Director General of Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF)’s International Relations and Military Cooperation.
