Kano State Govt Shuts Down All Event Centres, Activities Of DJs

Kano State Censorship Board has officially banned all Kauyawa Day Events (commonly known as Villagers Day Events) and suspended the operations of all event centers across the state till further notice.

The Executive Secretary of the Censorship Board, Abba El-Mustapha, made this announcement during a press briefing held on Saturday, following a board management meeting.

According to El-Mustapha, the action is part of a broader effort to promote morality and maintain public order.

He noted that the move is in line with the 2025 amendment to the law establishing the board, which was passed by the Kano State House of Assembly and subsequently signed into law by the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf.

El-Mustapha emphasized that the law empowers the Censorship Board to regulate and monitor the activities of DJs, event organizers, and event centers throughout Kano State.

As such, the board has resolved that any event organized under the label of Kauyawa Day is now considered a violation of the state’s regulations.

The Executive Secretary urged community leaders and security agencies including Hisbah, the Kano State Vigilante Group, and other neighborhood watch organizations to collaborate with the board to ensure full compliance with the new directive.

“Effective immediately, the organization of any Villagers Day Event (Kauyawa) is deemed an offense under the law. We call on all stakeholders to support the enforcement of this measure for the betterment of our society,” he said.
