The Kaduna Police Command has officially summoned the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, alongside seven other senior African Democratic Congress (ADC) members, for questioning.
The summons relates to allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.
El-Rufai was summoned by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of criminal investigation, Zubairu Abdullahi, alongside key members of the Kaduna State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The Police letter dated September 4, 2025, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Uzainu Abdullahi, directed the ADC Kaduna State Chairman to present El-Rufai and others at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8, 2025.
The other notable individuals summoned with El-Rufai include Bashir Sa’idu, Ja’afaru Sani (North West Chairman of ADC), Ubaidullah Mohammed (aka Mikiya 30), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (aka Mikiya).
“This Department is currently investigating the above-mentioned case involving the following members of your party. You are requested to come along with them to SCID to clarify allegations reported against them by the complainants on 8th September, 2025,” the letter read partly.
They are: “Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Bashir Saidu, Ja’afaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed, aka Mikiya 30, Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini, aka Mikiya.”
The coalition encompasses people from an All Progressives Congress (APC) faction opposed to the state leadership, alongside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Labour Party (LP), and the ADC.
However, the ADC members said they have not been served with the Police invitation and have only read about it on social media.
On Saturday, suspected thugs disrupted the inauguration of the transition committee members of a coalition of opposition parties under the ADC in Kaduna State.
The assailants, allegedly backed by the Kaduna State government and armed with cutlasses, clubs, and stones, attacked participants and vandalised properties including destruction of vehicles including El-Rufai’s, and damage to a conference hall.
Despite the incident, the inauguration continued under tense conditions. The Kaduna State Police Command, however, blamed El-Rufai for the incident.
Police Spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the former Governor failed to notify the Police and other security agencies about the meeting, despite repeated warnings.
The Kaduna State government has accused El-Rufai of attempting to destabilize the state through provocative actions and inflammatory statements, although the details of the official complaints remain unclear.
The Police have requested El-Rufai and party members to clarify the allegations to maintain public peace .
In addition, the police sealed off the ADC party office shortly before the North-West leadership of ADC was scheduled to make a commiseration visit following attacks on party members, indicating high tensions around these political issues in Kaduna State.
