JTF OPEP Distributes Palliatives, Holds 15km Race In Kaduna State

The Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP) has organised a Unity 15km Race and distributed palliatives to widows and persons living with disabilities in Sanga Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State.

According to a statement by JTF OPEP, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the activities was part of sustained non-kinetic efforts to consolidate peace and strengthen civil-military relations.

The event, which attracted youths, traditional rulers, community leaders, security agencies and other stakeholders, was aimed at promoting peace, unity and social cohesion among the diverse ethnic and religious groups in the area. It also served as a platform to reinforce cooperation between the military and the local population.

Speaking at the occasion, the Commander JTF Operation ENDURING PEACE and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 3 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, described sports and humanitarian outreach as effective tools for peacebuilding, conflict management and sustainable development.

He noted that the Unity 15km Race symbolised collective resolve against violence, while the distribution of palliatives reflected OPEP’s concern for vulnerable members of the society, particularly widows and persons living with disabilities.

The Commander urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information, stressing that peace is a collective responsibility.

He warned that Operation ENDURING PEACE would continue to deal decisively with criminal elements threatening the peace of the area.

Major General Oyinlola reassured the people of Sanga LGA of the unwavering commitment of the Armed Forces to protect lives and property, while encouraging youths to embrace sports and other positive engagements as pathways to unity, discipline and lasting peace.

In his welcome address, the Commander Sub-Sector 5, Major Mohammed Galadima, said the 15km Race was organised to promote peaceful coexistence, fitness and discipline among youths in Sanga LGA.

He explained that the event reflects OPEP’s commitment to non-kinetic strategies that strengthen civil–military relations. According to him, the palliatives distributed to widows and persons living with disabilities demonstrated compassion and shared responsibility, while the large turnout at the event showed that peace is taking its firm root in the area.

He appreciated traditional rulers, security agencies and community leaders for their support and urged residents to remain united and provide credible information to security agencies.

Stakeholders in Sanga LGA commended Operation ENDURING PEACE for its consistent security and humanitarian interventions. They described the palliatives as a clear indication that the military stands with the people and noted that OPEP’s efforts have restored lasting peace, allowing residents to live and sleep without fear. They collectively called for sustained peace during the yuletide season and beyond.

In his vote of thanks, the Executive Chairman of Sanga LGA, Hon Yakubu Usman Anto, represented by Professor Hosea Mande, applauded Operation ENDURING PEACE for its effective kinetic and non-kinetic operations, urging stakeholders to continue promoting peace and unity while assuring OPEP of continued support from the local leadership.

Highlights of the event included the cultural display, presentation of awards and cash prizes to marathon winners, distribution of palliatives, and presentation of souvenirs to invited guests.
