Military Home Front Critical In Fight Against Insecurity, Says Defence Minister’s Wife

Stable family support has been described as critical in the military campaign against insecurity.

Wife of the Minister of Defence, Mrs Lilian Musa, who spoke on Saturday at the Family and Community Day activities held at the Mogadishu Military Cantonment in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said soldiers in the frontlines need supporting homes and families to put in their best.

The Family and Community Day activities were part of series of programmes lined up to mark this year’s Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.

According to Mrs Musa, soldiers’ families pray fervently for the safety and protection of their members in the warfront and provide other forms support which are critical for effective performance of our military men and women.

With the theme “Celebrating the Strength Behind Our Soldiers,” Mrs Musa said: “this Event shows that Security and Defence goes beyond battlefield to the contributions of the home.

“There are family members who wait with courage and pray for our soldiers. National strength is not built only on ammunition but also through love from home.”

She assured that the sacrifices of our military men and women will never be forgotten, adding that the event was a “collective resolve to always support our armed forces.”

Earlier in her welcome address, the wife of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Mrs Hassana Shalengwa had praised the Ministry of Defence for organising the Day.

Mrs Hassana also recollected sacrifices made by soldiers for the unity and safety of Nigerians and thanked people who attended the function.

Highlights of the Day’s activities include tug of war contest, egg race, sack race, release of balloons which signified peace and unity, among other numerous fun activities.
