- President Putin held a phone call with President of the United Arab Emirates Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday evening
On Saturday evening, Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for the Emirati assistance in detaining a suspect in a recent attempt on the life of a senior Russian general, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
“President Putin held a phone call with President of the United Arab Emirates Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday evening. President Putin thanked his Emirati counterpart for the fruitful cooperation between special services and the Emirati assistance in detaining a suspect in the terror attack on General [Vladimir] Alekseyev,” Peskov said.
According to him, the two leaders continued the discussion of issues that were raised during Al Nahyan’s recent visit to Moscow.
There was an attempt on the life of Russian Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev in northwestern Moscow.
Alexeyev is Deputy Chief of the main Directorate of General Staff at the Russian Defence Ministry. The 64-year-old is responsible for intelligence and preparation of data for missile and air strikes on Ukraine, and for organizing ‘referendums’ in the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine, the Suspilne news agency reported.
Investigative Committee Spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko earlier said: “The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Articles 30 and 105 (“Attempted Murder”), as well as Article 222 (“Illegal Trafficking of Firearms”) over the attempted murder of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev in northwestern Moscow.”
According to the investigation, on February 6, 2026, an unidentified person fired several shots at a man in a residential building on Volokolamskoye Highway in Moscow and fled the scene. “The victim was taken to one of the city hospitals,” Petrenko said.
Investigators and forensic experts from the Moscow Investigative Committee are working at the scene, studying CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses. “Investigative and operational search measures are being carried out to identify those involved in the crime,” the spokeswoman added.
