Terrorist Financing: U.S. Top Official Begins 2-day Visit To Nigeria

The U.S. Department of Treasury’s Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing, Jonathan Burke, begins a two-day visit to Nigeria on Monday February 23, 2026.

A statement by the Public Affairs Section of United States Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria, Abuja, the visit is expected to “strengthen cooperation with the Nigerian Government on countering terrorist financing, as part of the Trump Administration’s efforts to reduce violence against Christians and other vulnerable groups.”

The full statement reads: “The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing Jonathan Burke will travel to Nigeria February 23 – 24 to strengthen cooperation with the Nigerian Government on countering terrorist financing, as part of the Trump Administration’s efforts to reduce violence against Christians and other vulnerable groups.

“He will meet with government authorities and private sector stakeholders to address risks to the financial sector and discuss steps to strengthen safeguards.”
