About 500 hoodlums, mostly of Northern Nigerian extraction, attacked the Okpanam Divisional Headquarters in Delta State on March 19 at around 1145hrs.

The attackers destroyed patrol vehicles and injured Inspector Chinedu Ebago of the Crack Squad on the forehead.

The unrest reportedly followed the death of an accident victim, allegedly a kinsman of the assailants, who they claimed did not receive adequate care after being taken to Specialist Hospital Asaba by the Police.

During the incident, the assailants brought the victim’s corpse to the station and unleashed widespread damage.

Reinforcements intervened, resulting in the arrest of 10 male suspects, while others fled, abandoning 14 motorcycles and one tricycle, which were recovered at the station.

The case has been referred to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) for profiling and further investigation.
