Brigadier General Lawal Bature Mohammed (rtd), former Commander of Zamfara Community Protection Guards (CPG), is dead.
Popularly known as Dan Gusau, the late Brigadier General Mohammed suffered bandits bullet wounds during an attack by bandits last year.
He was later flown to Egypt for medical attention. While recuperating, former AIG Muhammad Shehu Daligent (rtd) was named the new commander.
But he fell to the complications from the bandits’ attack.
The funeral prayer of the late CPG Commander was observed in the Sabon Gari area of Gusau, the State capital, on Thursday evening.
He was buried according to Islamic rites.
In June 2024, Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, decorated relations of CPG heroes, promising to fully support the family members of those who lost their lives in the fight against banditry.
In a statement on the event, Governor Lawal’s Spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, revealed that a total of 20 Community Protection Guards (CPGs) were decorated at that time and that they received the honour because they performed extraordinarily well in discharging their duties.
The statement noted that during his speech, Governor Dauda Lawal reiterated his administration’s dedication to the welfare of the guards and pledged full support for the families of those who lost their lives.
“Consider decorating you as a way to motivate you to do more in this significant sacrifice that you are undertaking.
“We can’t compensate you for your service to the state and humanity; all we can do is encourage and motivate you for your gallantry.
“I want to reassure you that we have a plan in place for the families of CPG members who lost their lives in the line of duty. We will take care of all their needs and provide them with all the necessary support.”
Earlier, Brigadier General Lawal Bature Mohammed, the the Commandant of CPGs, said that the 20 guards were selected from various local government areas of the State based on their performances.
