The All Progressives Congress (APC) Sokoto State Chapter is a well-drilled championship-winning squad that is marching confidently into the 2027 general elections season with tactical precision and remarkable cohesion. While the other political parties are still struggling with internal trials and dressing-room conflicts, the Sokoto APC team has already settled its First Eleven, the desired formation, and is fully prepared for the various games – Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship, and State Assembly elections – that, by all indications, appear to be walkovers, a no contest.
The APC fully understands that in politics, as in football, victory rarely comes by accident, and that successful teams are built on discipline, coordination, strategic leadership, and the ability to withstand pressure from the opposing side.
Going by the political landscape, the all-conquering APC Sokoto State Chapter looks firmly on course for another commanding victory in 2027. Like the well-drilled Premier League side defending a title, the party has tightened its formation, strengthened its midfield structure, and built a cohesive squad capable of outplaying any opposition.
In contrast, the other opposition parties -African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)- that are more like lower-division club sides are struggling to keep pace with a top-flight team whose depth, organisation, and attacking firepower sets it apart from them.
At the heart of this formidable side is a disciplined party structure built on consultation, unity, and coordination. In a political environment often defined by rivalry and division, the Sokoto APC team has distinguished itself through its consistent ability to build consensus and maintain cohesion.
The leadership has mastered the balance between authority and grassroots engagement, ensuring that decisions reflect collective interest rather than personal ambition. This philosophy remains one of the party’s greatest assets.
Like every successful football club, the APC thrives on teamwork, tactical discipline, and trust in their leaders, which has consistently selected quality players capable of delivering the results. The party operates under a highly effective dual-command structure, with Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and Governor Ahmed Aliyu functioning as co-technical directors. Behind the success of the team lies the very remarkable partnership between Senator Wamakko and Governor Aliyu, which continues to provide direction, stability, and confidence across the “field” of the state.
Together, they have assembled a balanced squad of experienced players and energetic new talents, creating a team capable of dominating Sokoto State politics for years to come.
Just as in the 2023 political “final,” the APC’s attack heading into 2027 is once again spearheaded by Governor Ahmed Aliyu—a clinical centre-forward and dependable Number 9 whose sharp finishing in governance has already placed Sokoto State several goals ahead.
Through infrastructure renewal, improved public service delivery, and strategic reforms, he has consistently demonstrated the instincts of an elite goal poacher, always positioned to convert opportunities into goals. Backed by a loyal fan base across the state, Aliyu leads from the front with the composure, confidence, and a winning mentality of a proven striker who has made scoring decisive goals a habit.
The Governor is strongly supported in the midfield by the Sokoto State House of Assembly, marshalled by Speaker Bala Bodinga, who combines defensive solidity with tactical discipline. He is expected to shield the administration from opposition pressure while helping to advance the government’s people oriented legislative agenda. Alongside him are several other dependable utility players whose consistency strengthens the overall team structure.
Under his leadership, the House of Assembly operates as a disciplined midfield unit fully aligned with the game plan of the Number 9 —providing support, cover, and accurate passes needed to sustain delivery of the 9-Point Smart Agenda. This alignment will allow the administration to maintain control of tempo and progress across all development fronts.
At the heart of the APC squad stands its indispensable captain, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, the State Leader. A two-term governor and seasoned political general, Wamakko combines the composure of a commanding centre-back with the vision of a deep-lying midfield maestro orchestrating play from the centre of the pitch. Since 2007, he has remained firmly in firm control of the politics of Sokoto State, patiently building a formidable structure that continues to dictate the tempo and shape the direction of politics across the state. Like the veteran playmaker with more than four seasons’ experience, his tactical awareness and on-field leadership make him the engine room of the party’s enduring dominance.
His ability to read the game, maintain stability, and direct play across the field makes him the heartbeat of the Sokoto APC political machine. Over the years, Senator Wamakko has carefully scouted and developed talented political players from all 23 local government areas, assembling a formidable squad with strength across every position. His reputation for consensus-building, mentorship, and grassroots mobilisation is widely acknowledged, by even his political rivals.
Only Governor Aliyu, a product of the Wamakko Political School, commands his level of influence and enduring loyalty. Like the brilliant student that he is Governor Aliyu continues to pick up invaluable lessons at the feet of his father and leader,in addition to his own talents.
Through disciplined recruitment and long-term planning, he has built a political structure that spans all 23 local governments—a network regarded as the strongest in the North.
Providing vital support in the midfield to Wamakko is Alhaji Umar Ajiya, the incoming Senator for Sokoto East, whose ball-winning ability and tireless work rate makes him a vital asset to the team. A disciplined midfield player who can easily break up opposition attacks and initiate forward movement with precision, a dependable box-to-box operator, he brings to the team his ball-winning instincts and tireless work rate, which every championship-winning side needs.
Ajiya brings organisational strength, administrative experience, and deep grassroots reach developed during his career at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), where he served as the Chief Operating Officer. He comes with institutional discipline and tactical coordination that will strengthen the APC’s balance and make the midfield engine even more difficult for its opponents to penetrate.
Holding the defensive line is Senator Ibrahim Danbaba, the incoming Senator for Sokoto South, a composed centre-back whose reading of the game allows him to neutralise threats early. Calm and disciplined, he provides stability while also linking the defence with attack through intelligent play and grassroots engagement across local government “teams.”
A successful squad no doubt requires experienced players who understand high-pressure matches. Within the Sokoto APC structure, Bala Abubakar, a returning federal representative, plays this role with his experience. He brings institutional memory, calm decision-making, and strategic awareness, which will help the team maintain structure in high-stakes encounters and strengthen unity in the dressing room by ensuring that senior and younger players remain aligned, disciplined, and focused on the shared game plan.
Team Sokoto APC will most certainly also benefit from the contributions of these utility players: Ahmad Kalambaina of Kware/Wamakko; Almustapha Ibrahim of Wurno/Rabah; Nasiru Shehu of Bodinga/Tureta/Dange-Shuni.
Fully aware that no championship-winning team succeeds without signing fresh legs, rising stars, and energetic young players capable of sustaining the momentum in future seasons, the Sokoto APC has wisely integrated a new generation of strikers into its team. Emerging new players like Dr. Abubakar M. Zayyana and Abba Shehu Tambuwal represent the energetic wingers of the team—dynamic, innovative, and capable of bringing speed, creativity, and renewed momentum to the team.
Dr. Abubakar M. Zayyana brings a different dimension to the squad—a deep-lying playmaker with both intellectual sharpness and international match experience. A Ph.D. holder with over 25 years on and off the pitch, he has sharpened his tactical awareness through roles as the immediate past commissioner of budget, a consultant at the London Institute of Banking and Finance and the Walbrook Institute, as well as a visiting lecturer at the University of Bedfordshire.
With more than two decades of experience across local and international leagues, Zayyana represents the technocratic engine of the APC side—a fresh, intelligent signing capable of delivering precise through balls and tailor-made passes that will unlock defences and create clear scoring chances for the attacking line.
Another fresh signing is the highly popular Abba Shehu Tambuwal, a grassroots-driven midfielder whose influence continues to grow across the political pitch. A former local government chairman, he arrives with the instincts of a seasoned playmaker who knows every blade of grass in the home stadium and understands how to control proceedings from the centre circle. He has the skills to control the tempo of matches, link leadership with grassroots structures, and ensure stability under pressure while maintaining coordination across all levels of the team.
The greatest strength of the APC Sokoto State Chapter is not just in the quality of its individual players, but in the cohesion of the entire squad. Football history is full of teams packed with star names that still underperform because it lacks unity, structure, and tactical discipline.
Fortunately, this team understands that talent alone does not win matches. Like a well-coached side built for a long title race, it has developed a political culture grounded in constant consultation, careful compromise, and shared responsibility across all departments of play. Internal tensions are not allowed to spill onto the pitch; instead, they are managed quietly in the dressing room through dialogue, man-management, and strategic engagement.
This level of political maturity has helped keep the squad focus on its game plan. As a result, the party remains disciplined in its “greater good” football philosophy—prioritising teamwork, stability, and long-term objectives, all aimed at one thing: consistently delivering trophies for the people.
Today, the APC Sokoto State Chapter has put together its very well-prepared Dream Team and is confidently ready for kickoff. With experienced captains directing play from midfield, disciplined defenders protecting the structure, creative midfielders controlling the tempo, energetic wingers injecting speed and innovation, dependable legislative supporters providing cover, and a proven striker leading the attack, the party is fully prepared.
One thing is clear: the Sokoto APC, like last season, will be absolutely unstoppable in the next season. Clearly, it is very determined not only to compete but to dominate.
