U.S. Launches Missiles At Iranian Cities As Iran Targets Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan For 2nd Day, Hit 2 Ships In Strait of Hormuz

The U.S. military said Thursday it had carried out a new round of strikes against Iranian military targets after President Donald Trump warned Tehran would be hit “very hard” if efforts to secure a peace agreement fail.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces conducted what it described as additional self-defense strikes at the direction of the commander in chief.

This is just as Iran hit Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan with retaliatory strikes on Thursday as the United States launched new assault across multiple Iranian cities, after President Donald Trump earlier warned that Tehran would “pay the price” for stalled negotiations.

Kuwait said it was dealing with aerial threats and Bahrain activated air raid sirens early Thursday after a night of clashes between the US and Iran threatened to reignite the Middle East war.

The Kuwaiti army said, in a post on social media, that “air defense systems are currently intercepting hostile aerial targets.”

The Gulf nation also shut its airspace for a temporary period and diverted flights due to the attacks.

Bahraini authorities set off sirens and told the public to shelter in a safe place.

In a statement posted on its official social media account, CENTCOM said US forces struck Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communications systems and air defense sites across Iran early Thursday.

The command said US Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy assets used precision-guided munitions against targets that posed a threat to American forces and international commercial shipping transiting regional waters.

“The strikes are in response to Iran’s unwarranted and continued aggression,” CENTCOM said, adding that US forces “remain vigilant, lethal and ready.”

Earlier, CENTCOM said American forces began “additional self-defense strikes” at 12:15 a.m. (midnight) Arabic Standard Time (AST) against multiple targets in Iran.

Trump told reporters at the White House that the United States would continue military action while still pursuing diplomacy.

“We’re going to be attacking them, attacking them very hard,” Trump said, citing Iran’s downing of a US Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz.

The president said Washington remains committed to reaching an agreement with Tehran.

“We want a deal that is meaningful, we want a deal that works,” Trump said.

He added that Iran had already agreed in principle not to obtain a nuclear weapon, but said a final agreement had yet to be signed.

Trump also claimed the United States had been secretly removing “millions of barrels of oil” from Iran, saying the operation had helped prevent global crude prices from rising sharply.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Iran would be “unwise” to further challenge the United States following the latest military action.

“Right now, they’re defensive strikes to ensure we protect our people,” Hegseth said during a visit to the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

“Iran would be unwise to challenge us further.”

Hegseth said Trump remained focused on securing an agreement that would permanently prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

“President Trump is seeking a deal. But not just a deal, a great deal on behalf of the American people so that Iran never gets a nuclear weapon,” he said.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Thursday it had fired ballistic missiles at a US command center in Jordan, according to state media.

This “punitive operation against the aggressor” targeted “Al-Azraq Air Base and its control center, using 12 ballistic missiles,” the Guards said, as quoted by the Tasnim news agency, claiming to have destroyed these facilities “and a large number of fighter aircraft.”

Iran’s military command also said Thursday it will target any ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz, after it struck two vessels attempting to pass through the strategic waterway, as talks to end the war faltered.

The Khatam Al-Anbiya command said Thursday, “any vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz will be targeted” adding that the strait is now “completely closed to all types of vessel,” according to the Tasnim news agency.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards navy, quoted by state television IRIB and the Mehr agency, said that “two ships attempting to illegally pass through the Strait of Hormuz were hit.”

“Following repeated violations of the ceasefire by the American enemy, the Strait of Hormuz will be closed until further notice,” it said.

“We warn that no vessel should leave its anchorage in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. Approaching the Strait of Hormuz will be considered cooperation with the enemy.”
