5 men in court for allegedly stealing church transformer

Five men on Thursday appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a church transformer worth N500, 000.

Stealing and conspiracy violate Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 and while stealing is punishable with three years imprisonment, conspiracy attracts two years jail term.

The police charged Michael Emmanuel, 22; Ola Abiola, 22, Bamidele Badejo, 25, Saviour Nwoko, 25 and Sunday Effiong, 40 with five counts bordering on conspiracy and theft.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to the Prosecutor, Insp Victor Eruada, the defendants conspired and stole a transformer worth N500, 000, property of Day Star Christian Centre.

Eruada also alleged that a Qlink motorcycle worth N150, 000, belonging to an unknown person was found in their possession.

He told the court that the defendants committed the offence on June 6 at about 6 a. m. at No. 10 Mobolaji Johnson Avenue, Alausa in Ikeja.

Chief Magistrate M.O. Tanimola admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Tanimola ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and have evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Sept. 3 for mention. (NAN)
