- Tehran has rejected Donald Trump’s claim that its leader has asked for a ceasefire, according to Iranian media
Iran’s foreign ministry has dismissed Donald Trump’s claim that Tehran asked for a ceasefire, calling it “false and baseless.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Al Jazeera he has no faith in talks with the US, and says that while he has had messages from Washington, no negotiations are under way.
Iran’s IRIB news agency reported that Aragachi described the five-point plan allegedly proposed by Iran as media “speculation.”
He is also reported to have said the war will continue until “the aggressor is punished and full compensation is paid to Iran.”
Donald Trump has said the Iranian “president” has asked for a ceasefire – but the US won’t “consider” it until the Strait of Hormuz is re-opened.
Posting on Truth Social, the US president described Iran’s leader as “much less Radicalized and far more intelligent” than his predecessors.
The US will ignore the claimed ceasefire request and carry on “blasting Iran into oblivion” until the strait is “open, free and clear”, Trump said.
It is unclear if Trump is referring to Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, who has been in his role since July 2024, or Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who succeeded his father in the role last month.
