Nigeria records 155 new COVID-19 infections, discharges 218 patients on Monday

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said that 155 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) was recorded on Monday while 218 patients recovered and discharged across the country same yesterday.

The new infections brought the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 55,160 out of total 424,186 sample tests since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced on February 27.

The NCDC said via its official Twitter handle that four deaths were recorded in Nigeria on Monday, bringing total deaths to 1,061.

The health agency said that the total number of successfully treated cases in the country  is now 43,231 while active cases under treatment is 10,868.

NCDC said that the 155 new COVID-19 infections were reported from 16 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with Lagos topping the chart with 42, 25 in Plateau and 16 in Rivers.

Other States with new cases include Ebonyi (10), FCT (9), Abia (9), Ogun (9), Osun (7), Katsina (6), Kaduna (6), Ekiti (4), Taraba (4), Edo (3), Anambra (2), Akwa Ibom (2) and Kano (1).

Meanwhile, NCDC has again admonished Nigerians not to use a face shield without a face mask.

According to the health agency, “a face shield alone cannot prevent the spread of infectious diseases like COVID-19. Disregarding the preventive measures for  COVID-19 puts you and everyone around you at risk of getting infected. When you take responsibility to limit spread of the virus, you protect  the vulnerable as well.”

It, however, reminded Nigerians that the fight against COVID-19 requires collective effort.
