Nigerians are reacting with skepticisms on reports that Benue State Governor, Dr Samuel Ortom and his wife have reconciled Channels TV Reporter, Pius Angbo, and his wife after a battering that turned her face red.
A picture had emerged of Angbo’s wife, Dr Ifeanyinwa, awkwardly embracing him for the camera with Governor Ortom and his wife at the background.
Emma ik Umeh (Tcee )@emmaikumeh had announced the reconciliation via his Twitter handle: “Pius Angbo the @channelstv reporter, reconciles with his wife. Thanks to the Governor of Benue State Dr. Samuel Loraer Ortom and his beautiful wife.”
But some Nigerians were not amused.
Afinju w’oja@SimplyTEEWHY noted: “Reconciles? Like what happens to all the accusations? Did he sign or make any commitment to never touching her again? Or will it now be silence while she is being killed? So many questions.”
Woye@woye1 asked all to sheath their sword, stating: “It has been resolved and May permanent peace be in their house forever.”
But Afinju w’oja@SimplyTEEWHY was not swayed. For him, “we know how these things work, especially in this part of the world where the male gender is “supreme”. This may be the typical peace of the graveyard. For someone who ought to know better, there ought to be some accountability in form of punishment.”
But Ruben@Forward_th_ink, reacting to insinuations that they should show their terms of agreement, says “he (Pius) doesn’t need to sign anything. The next time he tries it, the law should take it’s course. Signing papers does not prevent a recalcitrant behavior, only actions will.”
Channels TV has launched investigations against its Reporter in Benue State, Pius Angbo, who is accused of beating his wife, Ifeanyinwa Angbo, following a disagreement between the couple.
The leading national news station pledged to take “appropriate action” as it does not “condone violence against women or anyone in general.”
In a viral video, Ifeanyinwa, a medical doctor in Owerri, the Imo State capital, was seen with bruises and injuries on her cheeks as a result of the battering by his husband.
She revealed that she had never known peace in six years of her marriage, adding that she gave birth to a baby through cesarean section four weeks ago.
She said her husband assaulted her after she advised him to desist from spending recklessly on other women and save the money to take care of his children.
“He tried to strangle me when I was three months pregnant,” she said. “Calling him out, he works with Channels TV and his name is Pius Iroja Angbo from Benue state.”
Reacting to reports of the incident, Channels TV said on Twitter that it had commenced an investigation into the matter and assured that appropriate action would be taken.
“Channel TV does not condone violence against women or anyone in general. The domestic violence matter reported against one of our reporters is being investigated and appropriate action would be taken,” the station tweeted.
