As a sign of the escalating insecurity in the Southeast geopolitical zone, the Nigeria Police has confirmed that some angry youths on Wednesday killed a Police Officer and burnt a Police Patrol vehicle at a checkpoint along Ekwulobia-Nkpologwu-Uga road, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
But a video clip posted on Twitter showed the body of the slain officer dumped by a roadside while another was partly burnt and lying dead a little distance from the patrol vehicle.
Sources said that the attackers carted away the Officers’ rifle.
Anambra State Police Spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident, saying that the Commissioner of Police in the State had visited the scene of the killing, and ordered for an investigation into the tragic incident.
The Police Spokesperson noted however, that they are not yet certain about the number of Officers killed, telling a journalist, “We are still at the scene as I am talking to you, so let us wait until we get details.”
The attack comes less than 24-hours after a Police Station was attacked, and two Officers killed in Aba, Abia State, still in the South-East.
