Army rescues 10 expatriates, four Nigerians abducted by sea pirates off coast of Gabon, in Niger Delta

The Nigerian Army says troops of its 6 Division on Saturday rescued 10 expatriate workers and four Nigerians who were kidnapped by sea pirates off the Coast of Gabon.

Though Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, dis not disclose the location where the 10 expatriate workers and four Nigeria were rescues in a statement he issued on Saturday in Abuja, sources said it was on land where they were kept in captivity within the 6 Division Area of Responsibility.

The 6 Division, one of the newest of the Nigerian Army formations, was established on 8 November 2016 with the Headquarters in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. The Division is charged with responsibility of securing the Niger Delta/coastal region along with its critical national oil and gas assets and infrastructure.

General Yerima said that the rescue operation was carried out successfully and without any ugly incident or casualties.

He said the rescued victims would be handed over to law enforcement agents for further profiling before they would be released to their loved ones.
