Nigeria’s new COVID-19 figures on downward spiral, from highest ever 2,314 on January 22 to 120 on March 14, 187 on Wednesday

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says that Nigeria recorded nine Coronavirus (COVID-19)-related deaths and 187 new infections on Wednesday.

This continues a downward trajectory in daily new infections, dropping from an all-time daily high of 2,314 on January 22, 2021 to 120 new infections on March 14 and 179 on March 16.

Other statistics shows that on March 15, Nigeria recorded 238 new cases and 3 new deaths, 205 new cases and 4 new deaths on March 13, 287 new cases and 8 new deaths on March 11 and 399 new cases and 8 new deaths on March 12.

The NCDC said via its official Twitter handle that with the recorded two deaths on March 16 and nine on March 17, Nigeria has recorded 2,027 deaths since the pandemic emerged in the country with the February 27, 2020 index case.

Altogether, the country have conducted 1,684,305 tests, with total positive cases of  161,261. Out of the total number of

Nigeria has a total of 12,984 active COVID-19 cases and 146,395 treated and discharged.

The NCDC also said it registered 187 new COVID-19 cases in 18 States with Lagos recording the highest figure of 42, Taraba 29, Edo 17, Abia 13, Rivers 11, Kaduna 10, Katsina 9, Oyo 9, Kwara  and Plateau 7 each.

Also, Ondo recorded 5, Bayelsa 4, Cross River 4, Ogun and Osun 4 each, while Akwa Ibom, Brono and Nasarawa recorded 3 cases each.
