Army bust Boko Haram logistics stockpile, supplier in Kurkareta Yobe State

  • To investigate extortion, killing of woman, allegedly by troops in Katsina State

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said its troops under Operation Hadi Kai bust a Boko Haram logistics stockpile in Kurkareta town, Yobe State.

The raid, conducted in conjunction with local vigilantes on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, led to the recovery of 62 jerrycans loaded with Premium Motor Spirit popularly called petrol.

The fuel supplies were hidden in different houses and shops, according to Army Spokesperson, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima.

General Yerima said that three vehicles belonging to the terrorists’ suppliers with registration numbers DAL 626 YE (Kano), GBK 413 GR (Benue) and XA 390 SHN (Borno) were also impounded.

The statement by Yerima partly reads: “The successful raid was undertaken following credible intelligence that some members of the community are suppliers of fuel and other products to insurgents.

“All the recovered items and the suspects are in our custody for preliminary investigations before handing them over to the appropriate agency for prosecution.

“The NA remains determined to sustain their offensive operations in the area and assures the public that the Army leadership is committed to achieving the overall objective of keeping the North East and the entire country free of terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.”

The Army also said its attention has been drawn to alleged reports on the extortion and gruesome murder of a woman in Yankara village of Katsina State, allegedly by troops.

General Yerima said that “the Nigerian Army therefore wish to inform the general public that it has commenced investigation into the matter and that anyone found culpable will face the wrath of the law.

“As a professional and responsible force, the NA does not tolerate any act of professional misconduct. The general public is hereby urged to remain calm as the investigation will be thorough enough to get to the root of the matter.”
