Kano State Governor Escapes Death As Terrorists Attack Convoy

  • 3 security aides injured
  • Kano State Governor’s convoy was attacked less than 24 hours after a Northwest lawmaker was killed

Terrorists on Wednesday, June 30, unleashed an attack on the  convoy of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Governor of Kano State, Northwest Nigeria, while returning from Zamfara State.

The Governor was said to have joined other governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and leadership of the party to officially welcome Bello Muhammad Mattawale, the Zamfara State Governor who recently defected to the APC.

A source said that three security personnel attached to Ganduje’s convoy sustained varying degrees of injuries during the incident.

Muhammad Garba, Kano State Commissioner for Information confirmed the development.

Garba, who disclosed that slight injuries were recorded, however, insisted that Ganduje was not in the convoy.

Haruna Abdullahi, Police Spokesperson in Kano State, feigned ignorance of the attack, saying that he was not aware but all such inquiries should be directed to the Zamfara State Police Command.

When contacted, Muhammed Shehu, Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer  said the incident was not within the state jurisdiction and further directed that the Katsina State Police PRO be reached, who in return did not respond to calls and text messages.

This incident comes less than 24 hours after Mohammed Ahmed, a member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, was shot dead hours after he defected with Governor Bello Matawalle to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmaker was reported to have been killed by terrorists along Sheme-Funtua Road in Katsina State.
