Nigerian Army Chief Clerks holds convention, COAS charge them to be responsive and professional

Over 400 Chief Clerks in the Nigerian Army gathered at Headquarters, 81 Division, Lagos on Tuesday for their convention with Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, charging them to be responsive and professional in discharging their duties as custodians of Army documents and records.

The summit, tagged NA Chief Clerks’ Convention 2021, is being attended by senior officers and Chief Clerks who are drawn from units, formations, Corps Headquarters and training institutions across the Nigerian Army.

General Yahaya stated their adherence to all professional ethics and responsibilities would greatly enhance optimal performance of the clerks.

 Represented by the Commandant, Nigerian Army College of Logistics, Major General Martins Enendu, the COAS reiterated the importance of the Convention to the NA, saying that “if Chief Clerks carry out their duties effectively, there is no doubt, they will contribute immensely towards the actualization of his vision for the NA, which is to have “A Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Missions in a Joint Environment in the Defence of Nigeria.”

He further stated that as trained Clerks they must uphold the tenets of security of documents, which provides the guidelines for professional conduct.

According to a statement on the Convention by Army Spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, the first lecture titled “Capacity Development of Clerical Staff: Challenges and ways forward” was “succinctly” delivered by Colonel Onyekachi Eneowo, who enlightened  the participants on the roles of NA Clerical Staff. He pointed out the challenges to capacity development, especially in the face of current security challenges confronting the nation.

In the same vein, Brigadier General Chijioke Onwule in a lecture titled, “Exploring Information Communication Technology for Optimal performance of the NA Chief Clerks drew the attention of the participants to global best practices that are in tune with military conventions.

Speaking at the event, General Officer Commanding 81 Division NA, Major General Lawrence Fejokwu urged the participants to make optimal use of the opportunity by learning the rudiments of contemporary clerical work. He also disclosed that knowledge acquired would enable them function in various capacities.
