One Soldier, 2 Pirates Killed In Military Checkpoint Clash At Burutu, Delta State

A soldier and two pirates were killed during an attack by the gunmen on a military checkpoint in Tuomo, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

Sources said that the incident, which occurred at Tuomo community at about 10:30pm on Monday, is now currently brewing tension among residents of Tuomo and other neigbouring communities in Burutu.

The source noted that the hoodlums, who arrived with a speedboat, had launched the attack on the military checkpoint in the community with the aim of dispossessing soldiers attached to the checkpoint of their ammunition.

The gallant soldiers however reportedly repelled the attack. Apart form killing the two gunmen, the military also arrested one of the fleeing pirates.

The source, which confirmed the incident on Tuesday, claimed tension has pervaded the community and its neighbours.

Efforts to reach authorities of Operation Delta Safe on the incident proved abortive.

And when contacted, the Delta Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said he had not been briefed on the incident.
