Former ECOMOG Field Commander, General Tunji Olurin, dies at 76

Former Field Commander of the ECOWAS Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) from 1992 to 1993 during the first Liberian Civil War, Major General Olatunji Olurin is dead.

General Oluring, also a former Military Administrator of Oyo and Ekiti States died on Saturday aged 76.

He retired from the service of Nigerian Army in 1993.

General Olurin died at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in the early hours of Saturday, according to Funso Olurin, the deceased’s brother.

According to Funso, Olurin died after a brief illness.

General Olurin, a political ally of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, was the Military Administrator of Ekiti State during the period of declaration of State of Emergency in the State between from October 8, 2006, and April 27, 2007.

He hailed from Ilaro in Ogun West Senatorial district of Ogun state.

Oluring was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate in the 2011 general election in Ogun.
