Nigeria: Military to upscale operations towards nationwide security, says CDS, General Irabor

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, on Saturday restated the Nigerian military’s commitment to upscaling its operational capacities in a bid to enthrone lasting peace in all sections of the country to enable economic activities to return fully..

General Irabor spoke at an event to flag-off the “Project Zero Hunger” (Each One Feed One) programme jointly organized by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp in Durumi, Abuja.

The CDS also said that the Armed Forces and other security agencies have been mandated by President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that the security situation in the country is brought to a reasonable closure soon in order to enable farmers return to their farms, so as to guarantee food security in record time.

The Defence Chief lauded the men on the frontline in the battle against Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorism for their dedication but also noted that the military had a lot of mileage to cover in terms of improving the security situation in the country.

General Irabor heaped praises on NCFRMI and DEPOWA for their partnership which he said; “Supports the kinetic and non-kinetic operations of the military”. He added that their medical outreach, humanitarian and social intervention programmes have boosted its Civil-Military engagements while galvanizing community support and goodwill for military operations.

On her part, the DEPOWA President, Barrister (Mrs) Vickie Irabor, said that the scourge of internally displaced persons in Nigeria will be a thing of the past once insecurity is nipped in the bud.

The Project Zero Hunger event was also held simultaneously at the Karu and Keffi IDP Camps in Nasarawa State. Same will be replicated in the six Geo-golitical zones of the country, according to the organisers.
