The United States (U.S.) New York Public Library (NYPL) over the weekend honoured Nigeria’s award-winning global novelist icon, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

She was honored alongside Tina Brown, Jonathan Lethem and Darren Walker.

The NYPL also celebrated its 125th Anniversary and the life and legacy of the late Vartan Gregorian.

The honour was bestowed on the awardees during the annual gala to honor individuals who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields of arts, culture, letters and scholarship.

And by the honour, they have been named Library Lions.

Previous Library Lions include Margaret Atwood, Nelson Mandela, Steve Martin, Martin Scorsese, Zadie Smith, Gloria Steinem and Oprah Winfrey.

The New York Public Library was founded in 1895.

It houses nearly 53 million items within 92 locations.

It is the second largest public library in the U.S. and the fourth largest in the world.
