IPOB warns over extra-judicial killings in South East and South-South, reject COVID-19 vaccine

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has warned that the incessant killing of “unarmed and defenceless people” in the South East and South South geopolitical zones would bring “unpleasant consequences” if the Federal government does not halt it immediately.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed IPOB Publicity Secretary, Mr Emma Powerful, the group lamented that security agents have killed many people in Nkpor of Anambra state, Aba and Ohafia in Abia State as well as Warri in Delta.

It warned that “We cannot allow such barbaric killings to continue unchallenged if the perpetrators don’t immediately stop this cruelty. Any soldier, police or security personnel who takes pleasure In elimination of life of any will be made to drink the cup of his wickedness.”

It alleged that the Nigerian military, Police and other security apparatus have killed more than 20 citizens since the lockdown over Coronavirus (COVID-19) started. It named some of those killed to include: Mazi Ebuka Nwonye, 25, who was killed at Nkpor Anambra State; Mazi Promised, 46, killed at Uratta Road, Aba; Chinaemerem, also killed in Aba; and  Mazi Ekene Obieze ,24,  stabbed severely with dagger, allegedly by security agents.

But the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said last week that the nation’s law enforcement agencies have killed a total of 18 people in Nigeria since the lockdowns began on 30 March.

IPOB lamented that the Police men and soldiers deployed to enforce the restriction of movement had turned their attention to killing innocent people.

The group also condemned the Federal Government for not adequately including the South East in the distribution of palliatives to cushion the effects of the lockdown saying,

Noting that “it is on record that the entire former Eastern region, comprising the South South and South East zones, are Nigeria’s economic backbone and power force,” it also warned people of the South East and South-South not to accept any vaccine on COVID-19 alleging that the vaccine had been contaminated.

“We were reliably informed how money was distributed to State Governors in our land to allow and lure our people into taking this deadly vaccine. We therefore warn the compromised Governors to retrace their steps before it’s too late. They can’t be allowed to jeopardize or sacrifice the lives of the people on the altar of politics or personal gains. A day of reckoning is fast approaching!” the statement warned.
