Nigeria: Bandits Kill Soldier in Attack on Military Checkpoint in Ebonyi State, Umahi Orders Arrest of Culprits

The growing reign of terror in South East Nigeria continued as bandits attacked a military checkpoint at Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, killing s soldier on duty.

Sources said that the attack and subsequent killing of the soldier took place on Wednesday at the boundary between Uburu in Ohaozara LGA of Ebonyi State and Mpu in Aninri LGA of Enugu State.

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Uchenna Orji, confirmed the attack on Thursday shortly after the State Security Council meeting in the State capital, Abakaliki.

Orji said that the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has ordered the immediate investigation and possible arrest of the bandits who killed the soldier.

According to the Commissioner, “today, the Executive Council was briefed on the killing of a soldier on duty by yet to identify gunmen in a boundary between Uburu community in Ebonyi and Mpu in Enugu State.

“The Executive Council condemned in totality the killing and urged the security operatives to intensify efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
