Police Commissioner visits family of Warden Sergeant woman killed by Policeman in Port Harcourt, killer cop to be arraigned today

Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr Joseph Mukan, has confirmed that the dismissal of the Police Sergeant, Bitrus Osaiah, who shot dead woman Warden Sergeant Lavender Elekwashi at Eneka area of Port Harcourt last week. 

Mr Mukan said on Monday evening when he led a delegation of senior Police Officers for a condolence visit to the family of the late officer at Isu village, Ozuzu clan in Etche Local Government area of the State, that the orderly room trial of the suspect proved he was culpable and the suspect would be arraigned in court on Tuesday.

Mukan told the Chiefs and elders of the community during the visit that the deceased officer was very dedicated to work, expressing regret that the woman Sergeant died while serving her fatherland. 

The Police boss also disclosed that the Command will ensure that her benefits gets to her next of kin, pledging to also assist the family “in the Command’s little way.”

He then presented a cash gift to the family and prayed God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss. 

In his response, His Royal Highness Eze Josiah, Onye Ishi Agwuru Ozuzu Clan in Etche N. Nwagwu, urged the Commissioner of Police to use his good office to ensure that justice is done in the matter.

Also speaking, Mr Jerome Chukwuemeka Okorie, Esq, lawyer to the family, demanded adequate compensation for the immediate family of the killed officer and also making sure that justice is served to all parties.

Our Correspondent reported that the husband to the killed female officer, Mr Chimezie Kezeen, Youth and opinion leaders were all present at the CP’s visit.
