Obiano Had Been On Our Watch List, He Lost Immunity, Hence His Arrest – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it arrested the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, because he had been on its wanted list.

Chief Obiano was arrested by the EFCC on Thursday night at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos on his way out of the country, few hours after he handed over power to the new Governor of the State, Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

EFCC Spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, told BBC Pidgin that prior to the hand over of power on Thursday, “Obiano has been on our watchlist for sometime now. He had immunity as a governor and that is why we could not arrest him before now.

“Today he lost the immunity and was traveling out of the country before we finally arrested him.”
