Anambra State Treasury Is Funny, Pathetic, Says Governor Soludo

Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, on Tuesday lamented the state of affairs in the State treasury he inherited, saying they are funny and pathetic.

Speaking during an interview on Airse Television, Soludo said that his predecessor, Chief Willie Obiano, left about N300 million in the State account when he left office last Thursday. The debt he inherited, he said, “runs into hundreds of billions of Naira.”

According to Soludo, “In terms of debt I inherited, it runs into hundreds of billions of Naira. In that of cash, we met about 300 million Naira. In fact let’s not talk about it.

“Our treasury is funny. But I hope we shall make money henceforth to help us fulfill our promises for infrastructure and development of the State.

“But in terms of what I met in our coffers, my brother, it’s pathetic. Please let us not go there. God will help us.”

Chief Obiano is under the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as he was arrested hours after handing over to Soludo last Thursday at Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos when he was trying to flee to Houston Texas, United States.

He is under investigation for alleged misappropriation of Anambra State funds.
