Police Nab 29-year-old Man For Faking Own Kidnap

Detectives of the State Criminal Investigation Department Lagos, have arrested 29-year-old Rafiu Rahaman, a staff of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) in Lagos State, for faking his kidnap.

Available report indicated that Rahaman faked his kidnap and then travelled to Lugbe Abuja where he made a video of himself in captivity, which was sent to his co-worker his accomplice, 32-year-old Usman Sheidu.

Usman Sheidu then demanded N5 million ransom for the release of Rafiu Rahaman but got only N100,000 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) after extensive negotiation.

Police confirmed that “further preliminary Investigations revealed that Usman Sheidu who was arrested in Abuja conspired with Rahaman to self-stage the kidnap and make the video that was sent to the co-worker for ransom. Usman also confessed to having shared the ransom equally with Rahaman which was used to acquire a generator and other items.

“Suspects will be arraigned in court at the conclusion of investigations.

“The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, fdc, while commending the detectives for a job well done, reassures Lagosians that perpetrators of crimes will not go undetected and unpunished.”
