COVID-19: NCDC, PTF approves Remedesivir for treatment

•To work with NAFDAC to make drug accessible

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Presidential Task Force (PTF), has approved Remedesivir as the drug for the treatment of Coronavirus following the likes of the United States and United Kingdom.

This is coming as growing number of Nigerians have called on the Federal Government to look inward for local remedy instead of relying on foreign solutions.

The Director-General of NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, disclosed this on Sunday while speaking on Channels Television via an @NCDCgov tweet highlights.

Ihekweazu also said that the next step is to work together with NAFDAC to ensure that Nigerians have access to the drugs.

“Since the onset of #COVID19, we committed to follow the science & we’re happy of clinical trial evidence of #remedesivir. Next steps are to work with @NafdacAgency to make the drug accessible.

“We’re part of a global problem & therefore will be part of the solution,” he said.

Speaking further, the NCDC boss urged Nigerians to be patient and ensure they follow the authorised measures by the Centre, PTF and other relevant bodies, as according to him: “Sometimes speed has its consequences, however we are building.

“Despite best efforts of @PTFCOVID19 & state governments, no response measure to control #COVID19Nigeria will be adequate until Nigerians resolve to adhere to recommended measures”
