Peter Obi Express Solidarity With Ike Ekweremadu, Prays For His Daughter’s Healing

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has expressed solidarity with the embattled former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice over their travails.

The Ekweremadus were on Thursday remanded after appearing before a UK court on charges of bringing a child to the UK for organ harvesting.

Reacting, in a tweet on Friday, Obi said: “My family and I are with the Ekweremadu’s over their travail. We join all men of goodwill in praying for the healing of their daughter and commit them into God’s hand for justice to be done.”

Ekweremadu was recently in the news for saying the South-East region would not vote for Obi in the 2023 elections.

The UK Metropolitan Police had said investigation was launched into the organ harvesting allegation after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

“[A] Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

“[B] Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting,” the police said in a statement.
