According to UN estimates, the over decade long Boko Haram terrorism has also destroyed 36,000 lives and property worth over $9 billion (N3.24 trillion).

He said that the strategy is to ‘prioritize life-saving needs of insurgency’ affected population in the Northeast of Nigeria.

“The UN response strategy was also to lay foundation and path for peace building and recovery in Northeast region affected by decade long conflicts.”

He noted that 7.9 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States.

On the status of displaced persons, Kallon said that “over 1.9 million are currently internally displaced, while 300,000 live as refugees in neighbouring countries of Cameroon, Chad and Niger.”
