Nigeria’s COVID-19 confirmed cases now 6,175 with 216 new cases

The spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nigeria continues its upward swing as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said that as at Monday, the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria is now 6,175.

The NCDC also said that this is as a result of 216 new confirmed cases recorded on Monday. In addition, nine new deaths were recorded in Nigeria

Altogether, 6,175 cases have been confirmed, 1,644 cases have been discharged and 191 deaths have been recorded in 34 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The 216 new cases were reported from 15 states- Lagos (74), Katsina (33), Oyo (19), Kano (17), Edo (13), Zamfara (10), Ogun (8), Borno (8), Gombe (8), Bauchi (7), Kwara (7), FCT (4), Kaduna (3), Enugu (3), Rivers (2).

In a move to combat the spread of the pandemic disease, President Muhammadu Buhari directed the cessation of all movements in Lagos and the FCT for an initial period of 14 days, which took effect from 11 pm on Monday, 30th March 2020.

The movement restriction, which was extended by another two-weeks period, has been partially put on hold with some businesses commencing operations from May 4. It was again extended for another two weeks on Monday.

The latest numbers bring Lagos state total confirmed cases to 2624, followed by Kano (842), Abuja at 422, Katsina (281), Borno (223), Bauchi (222), Jigawa (201),  Ogun (153), Kaduna (145), Oyo (137), Gombe (134),  Sokoto (113), Edo (108), Zamfara (84).

Kwara State has recorded 65 cases, Rivers (53), Osun (42), Plateau (35),  Yobe and Kebbi (32), Nasarawa (31), Delta (27), Niger (22), Adamawa (21), Ondo (20), Ekiti (19), Akwa Ibom (18), Taraba (17), Enugu (15), Ebonyi (9), Imo (7), Bayelsa (6), while Benue, Abia, and Anambra states have each recorded 5 cases.
