Hoodlums together with some underage Almajiris’ in Katsina State metropolis on Thursday took to the street throwing stones immediately after President Muhammadu Buhari commissioned the newly constructed underpass bridge along Kofar Kaura Road.
The hoodlums while chanting ‘we are not interested’ in Hausa were also seen throwing stones at the site of the project.
The uproar which lasted for over 30 minutes was eventually brought under control by security personnel in conjunction with vigilantes members.
However, in the process of bringing the situation under control using teargas, some journalists running round to cover the president’s activities reportedly inhaled the smoke from the teargas.
Reacting to the development, SP Gambo Isah, Spokesperson, Katsina Police Command said there was no protest at all neither was Mr President booed as reported by some media houses.
However, he said police operatives arrested some hoodlums creating unrest around Sabuwar Unguwa, a notorious area, for Indian hemp and drug dealers in the state.
President Buhari is on a two-day visit to his home state to commission some projects executed by the state government.
Meanehile, President Muhammadu Buhari says he believes history will be kind to his administration, going by the situation inherited on security and economy, and the difference that has been made.
Buhari, according to a statement on Thursday by Spokesperson Femi Adesina, inspected and inaugurated some projects in Katsina State where he extolled Governor Aminu Masari for silently growing the State via effective management of resources.
“I have done my best and I hope history will be kind to me,’’ he declared at a lunch after the inauguration of the projects in Katsina town.
The President also inaugurated the Muhammadu Buhari Meteorological Institute undertaken by the Ministry of Aviation, the Darma Rice Mill in Batagarwa, and the Katsina State General Hospital.Buhari, who is on a two-day official visit to the state, also inspected ongoing work on the first flyover in Katsina which had reached 90 per cent completion in the Government Reserved Area.
While noting that former military Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, had been criticized for his leadership style, he regretted that the critics had ignored the contributions of the Petroleum Trust Fund, which he chaired.
He particularly noted that the PTF implemented many developmental projects in the health and education sectors, with some of them still evident in many parts of the country.
