Buhari Cannot Release IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu Before May 29, Arewa Community Tells Ohanaeze

The Arewa Community in Southern Nigeria has faulted the call by the Onanaeze Ndigbo for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Musa Saidu, the leader of the community, said in response to the call by the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu on Buhari to release Kanu before the May 29 scheduled hand over.

But Saidu said Iwuanyawu’s call was wrong, wondering if the killings in the South East region of Nigeria will stop if Kanu is released.

According to the statement by Saidu: “Where were they when Kanu was leading IPOB militants to kill innocent people in the South East.

“Not only in the South East, so many members of the Arewa community were attacked in Port Harcourt and nobody said anything, we have the figures, we have even the photos of those killed in cold blood.

“Now they’re clamouring for his release, what guarantee are they giving that the killings will not continue if he is released.”

Kanu has been detained by the Department of State Services, DSS, since his extra-ordinarily renditioned from Kenya back to Nigeria to continue his trial before the Federal High Court, Abuja over his agitation for Biafra.

Despite being discharged and acquitted by the Court of Appeal, the Federal Government has refused to release Kanu.

The federal government has appeal the Court of Appeal decision at the Supreme Court.
