House Of Reps Scrap Budget For Controversial Presidential Yacht

As a face saving measure, the House of Representatives on Thursday scrapped the budgetary allocation for the N5.095 billion Presidential yacht.

It therefore moved the proposed sum to student loans, thereby increasing the allocation to N10 billion as against the initial N5. 5 billion.

Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee Abubakar Bichi Abubakar made this known on Thursday while addressing newsmen.

He said the need became necessary following low budgetary allocation for students.

The Committee also increased the budgetary allocation of the Ministry of Defence from N476 billion to N546 billion, following security concerns across the country.

Bichi also disclosed that the minimum wage for workers was considered and approved for onward transmission to the executive while promising proper legislative oversight to ensure 100 per cent implementation.
