  • CDS calls on “leadership at all level to fight criminality by providing purposeful leadership and development”

The leadership of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria on Thursday visited Defence Headquarters Abuja, meeting with Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa.

The leaders of the Sharia group, led by Dr Bashir Aliyu Umar, discussed with General Musa on the general security situation in Nigeria especially the Nigerian Army mistaken bombing at Tudun Biri in Kaduna State.

According to a statement on the meeting by Defence Spokesperson, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, General Musa assured the Sharia Council of the Armed Forces of Nigeria ( AFN) undaunting commitment to ensuring peace in the country.

On the recent Tudun-Biri incident in Kaduna State, the CDS said it “was unfortunate and highly regrettable,” pledging “to sincerely find the cause” while promising “lasting solutions to avoid future occurrence. We will do everything possible to get to the bottom and ensure it happens no more.”

General Musa, while noting that “there are few security challenges in the country, particularly in the North West,” however called on “leadership at all level to fight criminality by providing purposeful leadership and development.”

Responding, the team leader of the Sharia group, Dr Bashir, commended the CDS for “providing pivotal leadership style which is people-centric.

Bashir enjoined Nigerian leaders to ensure that they don’t “live in affluence when the majority leave in abject poverty.”

He stated that “the CDS leadership style has shown visible positive changes in the entire security architecture of the country,” further appreciating him “for his tenacious commitment to addressing the Tudun Biri incidence.”

Dr Bashir commended the CDS for his empathy and show of concern to the victims of the Tudun Biri drone attack.
