The deal, inked on September 2, 2024, ahead of the Forum on Sino-African Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, aims to enhance Mali’s defense capabilities amidst persistent security challenges.

The agreement, signed by the Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs and the Director of Norinco, underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthening their cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

The new military equipment is expected to play a crucial role in supporting Mali’s defense forces as they tackle security concerns that remain a top priority for the government and the population.

This development comes as Mali prepares to participate in the FOCAC summit, scheduled for September 4 in Beijing, where African and Chinese leaders will convene to discuss key issues, including security cooperation and economic development.

The agreement marks a significant step forward in Mali’s efforts to reinforce its defense capabilities and combat terrorism, with the support of its international partners.
